What is a Dermapen?
Dermapen is a device that breaks down old scar tissue in order to stimulate skin cells for growth. The skin’s natural healing process then results in an improved blood supply and the creation of new tissue layers with collagen and elastin fibres.
The device gently glides over the area being treated, penetrating the skin layers that are closest to the surface, up to a depth of 2mm, to create several tiny needle abrasions. The treatment encourages the body to react through the formation of new collagen fibres and elastin. As the skin responds to the treatment, it plumps and thickens, which in turn minimises the appearance of scarring, wrinkles, and fine lines.
What conditions does micro-needling help?
- Wrinkles & fine lines
- Stretch marks
- Mild to moderate scarring from acne
- Surgical scarring
- Keloid scarring
- Skin texture & pore sizes
What Happens During a Treatment?
Firstly, the skin is cleaned and an anaesthetic cream is applied which helps with reducing discomfort. Results are enhanced by using a collagen-stimulating product, such as Hyaluronic Acid or Vitamin-C serum during the procedure. Next, the Dermapen device is gently rolled across ths skin. It has a sterile, disposable tip featuring 12 tiny needles which pierce the skin at a depth which your practitioner thinks will be the most effective. The device’s multi-speed and fully adjustable needle depth increases the absorption of treatment products. Following treatment, a calming and soothing skin product such as Hyaluronic Acid or Vitamin-C serum is again used to heal, protect and hydrate the skin.
What Happens After Treatment?
It is common to experience some mild redness, along with some swelling in certain cases, which may last approximately 24-48 hours. After several days or weeks you will start to notice a smoother, brighter and more radiant appearance and younger looking skin as your skin rejuvenates. However, it can take several months to realise the treatment’s full benefits.
Are There Any Risks?
The likelihood of an infection taking place is extremely small, since the procedure is performed under safe medical conditions and the tiny pricking channels will close up within an hour of the treatment being performed.*
How Often Can I Have It?
The micro-needling treatment can be repeated safely every 4-6 weeks until the desired results are achieved. When reducing the appearance of scarring, it is recommended that 3-6 treatments take place. For the introduction of collagen, 3 treatments are recommended to begin with, but a minimum of 4-6 weeks should separate each treatment. Different factors will affect the number of treatments necessary, including how each individual reacts to treatment and the degree of damage at the outset.*
The micro-needling treatment can be used on all skin areas of the body and the majority of people will be able to visibly notice the results from the very first session.*
Practically no harmful side effects occur as a result of the procedure. In more than 150,000 treatments performed worldwide, there have been no negative cases reported.
*Treatments are bespoke for every individual and results may vary.
